BABA stands for Build America, Buy America, enacted as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) in November 2021. It requires that all iron, steel, manufactured products, and construction materials used in federally funded infrastructure projects are produced in the United States. BABA applies to projects funded by federal financial assistance programs across all federal agencies, including FHWA, FTA, FAA, and EPA.
Grit-Sync is a compliance intelligence platform that helps state DOTs, contractors, and federal-aid recipients navigate Buy America requirements. It provides:
  • Material classification into BABA categories (Iron/Steel, Construction Material, Manufactured Product, Excluded)
  • AI-powered Q&A with citation-backed answers from federal regulations
  • Per-project compliance matrices for tracking material compliance
  • De minimis cost calculators and worksheets
  • Certification chain management for supplier documentation
  • 6,600+ pre-classified Caltrans bid items
Grit-Sync uses a retrieval-based system, not generative AI like ChatGPT. Every answer is sourced from curated expert-written content, federal regulations, and FHWA guidance documents. The system does not generate or hallucinate answers. It retrieves the most relevant pre-verified information using semantic search and returns it with full citations. This approach ensures accuracy and traceability, which is critical for compliance work.
Our classification engine includes 650+ pre-classified products curated by BABA compliance experts. These classifications are based on published FHWA guidance, 2 CFR Part 184, and established DOT interpretations. For products not in our database, the Classification Wizard walks you through the decision logic used by federal agencies. We continuously update our classifications as new guidance is issued.
Free Tier gives you access to the AI Q&A search, the classification wizard, and the bid item lookup with up to 3 projects. Pro Tier ($149/month per seat) unlocks unlimited projects, the full compliance matrix, de minimis calculator and worksheet generation, cert chain management, data export (CSV/PDF), priority support, and early access to new features. Enterprise pricing is available for agencies needing custom integrations or dedicated support.
You can upgrade from the Free tier to Pro at any time. Go to your Account Settings and click "Upgrade to Pro." You will be redirected to a secure Stripe checkout page to enter your payment information. Your Pro features activate immediately after payment. You can also upgrade from the pricing section on our homepage.
Yes. Pro users can export compliance matrices as CSV or PDF files. The de minimis worksheet can be downloaded as an Excel-compatible file. Classification results and project data can also be exported for use in your own reporting systems. We are also building Procore integration for bidirectional sync.
Security is a top priority. Your data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. The application is hosted on Railway with US-based infrastructure. We implement row-level security (RLS) so that each contractor can only see their own data. We do not sell or share your data with third parties. For enterprise customers, we offer SOC 2 compliance documentation and dedicated infrastructure options.
Phase 2 refers to the next stage of Grit-Sync's feature roadmap. It includes the Contractor Sub-Portal (allowing subcontractors to self-serve cert uploads), advanced analytics dashboards, Procore and HeavyJob integrations, automated regulatory alerts from the Federal Register, and multi-tenant PostgreSQL migration. Phase 2 features are rolling out throughout 2026. Pro users get early access.
Navigate to the De Minimis Calculator from your project dashboard. Enter the total contract value, then add each non-compliant material with its cost. The calculator automatically applies the applicable threshold and shows whether you are within the allowable limit. You can also generate a formal de minimis worksheet for documentation and submittal to the funding agency.
Grit-Sync currently focuses on FHWA (highway) projects, which is where the majority of our curated content and bid item classifications originate. However, the core BABA requirements under 2 CFR Part 184 apply across all federal agencies, so much of the Q&A content and classification logic is applicable to FTA, FAA, and EPA-funded projects as well. We are expanding agency-specific guidance in future updates.
From the Cert Chain Manager, click "Invite Supplier" and enter their name and email address. They will receive an invitation email with a link to a secure portal where they can upload their Buy America certifications. You can track the status of all invitations and uploaded certs from your dashboard. Subcontractors do not need a paid account to upload certs.
Grit-Sync works on all modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge (latest two versions). We recommend Chrome or Edge for the best experience. The application is fully responsive and works on tablets and mobile devices, though we recommend a desktop or laptop for complex compliance matrix work.
Click "Forgot Password" on the login page and enter your email address. You will receive a password reset link within a few minutes. The link expires after 1 hour for security. If you do not receive the email, check your spam folder or contact [email protected] for assistance.
Grit-Sync is built by Grit Force Inc., a California-certified Small/Micro Business (SB/MB). Our team combines expertise in infrastructure procurement, federal compliance regulations, and software engineering.
